Community Planning

In the field of community planning, the Community Planning Act assigns the roles to be played by Council, the Planning Advisory Committee and the Development Officer. Council has legislative authority, with the power to enact, amend and appeal by-laws, and to enter in to agreements to protect the interests of the Town. The Planning Advisory Committee has judicial power to make decisions which are not dictated by legislation. The Development Officer has executive power to administer and ensure compliance with the by-laws

  • The Planning Officer performs the duties of the technical planning in compiling, analyzing and interpreting data affecting community planning.
  • The Planning Officer prepares reports based upon careful research and study of planning problems, and advises the Chief Administrative Officer on matters relating to Community Planning.
  • The Planning Officer prepares land use plans within the policies of the Town Council and serves as technical advisor and secretary to the Planning Advisory Committee.
  • The Planning Officer represents the Town at public meetings and conferences with other public and private groups, participating and negotiating as authorized in the solution of community planning problems.
  • The Planning Officer maintains a working knowledge of the municipal area plan and coordinates communications concerning new developments and problems which may arise within the community planning.
