The Technical Officer for the municipality is the Building Inspector, as appointed by Town Council.
The Building Inspector is directly responsible to Council through the Chief Administrative Officer and is subject to provision of existing by-laws of the Town and the Province of New Brunswick legislation.
- The Building Inspector is responsible for the receipt of applications and issuing of building permits for new construction and/or renovations to residential, commercial, institutional and industrial structures.
- The Building Inspector is responsible for the enforcement of regulations pertaining to the duties of the Building Inspector which may form part of any by-law of the Town or the Province of New Brunswick legislation.
- The Building Inspector maintains records of applications and building permits issued and the estimated cost of work performed, under authorization of these permits.
- The Building Inspector is responsible for the enforcement of the Town’s Building By-Law, a by-law which prescribes standards for new structures and/or renovations.
- The Building Inspector records and maintains up-to-date, as-built, revisions to the Town plans resulting from the issuing of building permits.
- The Building Inspector liaisons with the Province of New Brunswick inspectors as and when required for proper inspection services in accordance with the regulations contained in Town By-Laws or the Province of New Brunswick legislation.
- The Building Inspector submits a report at the end of each month to Council detailing the month’s activities.
