Personnel
The Oromocto Fire Department is staffed 24 hours a day by a minimum of four career firefighters. The career firefighters work a rotation of ten-hour day shifts and fourteen-hour night shifts in a four platoon system. The Oromocto Fire Department and the Canadian Forces Base Gagetown Fire Department are automatically dispatched to all incidents providing an initial staffing level at incidents of 7 firefighters. If additional resources are required, the volunteer firefighters are paged-out either by group, or as an "all-call" for all volunteers. The volunteer firefighters are each assigned to one of two groups and rotate as the primary on-call group, and the support group.
In addition to fire suppression duties, the Oromocto Fire Department provides medical assistance response within the Town of Oromocto, water rescue, ice rescue, auto extrication, and is a member of a joint Regional Hazardous Materials Team with the Fredericton Fire Department.
Dispatch services and IT support for the Department’s incident reporting system (FDM) are provided, on a contract basis, by the City of Fredericton, located approximately 20 km away.
